The Church of St Martin-in-the-Gaer is the daughter Church of St Woolos’ Cathedral, Newport. The Church was built in the late 1950’s as a temporary worship centre for the people from the newly built Gaer Eastate. The original Church building, which has been kept in good repair, is still the one we use.
There is a Said Eucharist Service (with hymns) every Sunday at 9.30 a.m. During Lent, there is a said Eucharist on a Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. The congregation is small numerically but faithful in their attendance.
For people living on the Gaer Estate, the Church is available for Baptisms – either during the 9.30 a.m. Sunday service or later in the day. Funerals can also be held in the Church but the building is not licensed for Weddings. For more information about any of these occasional services, please telephone 01633 258556.
The Sanctuary of the Church can be screened off from the main Hall. This means that the Hall can be used for community groups during the week. The Hall can also be booked for children’s parties and other events.Hall hire charges (correct in May 2014) are: £12.50 per hour for regular bookings and, for parties, etc. £45 in the summer and £55 in the winter.
Currently, there are regular weekly bookings:
7.00 - 8.15 pm Gaer Community Choir
Wednesdays - 6.00 - 7.00 pm Girls' Youth Club (school term time only)
